DS eXpress Tools (DeT)
DeT version 1.5, the latest release for DS eXpress Tools, has many new and compelling features that make it a "must have" tool for those who depend heavily on Altiris Deployment Solution 6.9 in their day-to-day endpoint management activities. Many of these features are the direct result of the excellent suggestions received from users of earlier DeT versions. Of particular note, is the fact that DeT can now be installed on a server that is physically separate from the DS server. This makes for easier evaluation and testing of DeT because it does not have to be installed on a production server.
eXprescient has announced general availability of DS eXpress Tools (DeT) version 1.5. The new features in DeT version 1.5 include consolidated inventory reports from multiple DS servers, job status reporting, E-mail-based job monitoring, integrated multi-screen Windows 7 remote control, full support for the DS security model, and an improved install experience.
Most of the new features in DeT version 1.5 are the direct result of suggestions made by those who have used earlier versions of DeT. The ability to pull inventory and other reports simultaneously from multiple DS servers is an innovation that will allow IT personnel to instantly obtain integrated information from multiple DS servers without resorting to manual SQL queries or other difficult to use tools. Job status reports and job monitoring via E-mail allow for flexibility and improved productivity when performing complex migration and deployment tasks. Integrated right-click remote control from inside the DeT console allows for easy and reliable multi-screen remote intervention for all systems including Windows 7. Full support for DS role and scope security allows you to deploy DeT with confidence knowing that all assigned rights and roles will be honored. The improved install experience not only allows you to install DeT on the same machine as DS or on a different machine, but it provides for a smooth installation in most environments.
DS eXpress Tools (DeT) leverages and extends the industry-leading Altiris Deployment Solution 6.9 (DS 6.9) endpoint management tool from Symantec. Existing Altiris Deployment Solution 6.9 users are clamoring for more functionality associated with their favored tool, Deployment Solution 6.9. Much of this available functionality is available in Symantec's other products, but some customers may not be able to use these products for a variety of reasons, including setup complexity, server restrictions, and the use of thin client endpoints.
Regardless of the reason, there is significant, pent-up demand for additional functionality surrounding Deployment Solution 6.9, hence the need for our DS eXpress Tools product to fill the feature gap.
